Global Alliance for Rights of Nature Formed From Historic International Gathering in Ecuador

A groundbreaking International Gathering for Rights of Nature was organized by The Pachamama Alliance and Fundación Pachamama in September, where conscious individuals and organizations who have worked to promote the recognition of Rights of Nature, met to expand this concept around the world. Out of this four-day meeting in Patate, Ecuador, the Global Alliance for Rights of Nature was formed.

MoveOn asked its millions of members "What are you thinking about yesterday's elections?" and this was my response

I've been a MoveOn member for many years now, and what's most troubling to me is how MoveOn's self-selected leadership continues to manipulate its members in a whole variety of ways that make it impossible for those millions of us to really get ourselves organized and mobilized, which imo is one big reason that we lost so badly yesterday. Here are some examples:

"Pittsburgh’s Community Protection from Natural Gas Extraction Ordinance"

This is the actual text of the ordinance which was passed by the Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) City Council in a vote of 9-0 on November 16, 2010:

Open Letter to Communities Working to Stop Fracking (November 16, 2010)

This morning, the Pittsburgh City Council became the first municipality in the United States to ban natural gas extraction within its boundaries. The ordinance isn’t just a ban – it consists of a new Bill of Rights for Pittsburgh residents (which includes a right to water along with rights for ecosystems and nature), and then proceeds to ban those activities – including natural gas extraction - which would violate those rights.

Check out my latest radio interview - on 9/27/2010

Go to, then go to "Season Two", 9/27/10, and click on my name. There are literally hundreds of hour-long interviews there worth listening to.

Pittsburgh may become the first U.S. city to ban natural gas drilling within the city

Residents of Pittsburgh, PA, are asking their City Council to pass what would be the nation's very first ban on natural gas drilling within city limits. And it appears they may get their wishes as early as next month, when the Council plans to vote on this groundbreaking ordinance.

The ordinance is titled:

CELDF's Thomas Linzey to speak at Earth at Risk Conference in San Francisco, October 16, with Derrick Jensen

CELDF Executive Director Thomas Linzey is one of a small group of key thinkers invited to participate in the day-long Earth at Risk event in San Francisco on October 16, 2010.

The Mondragon Cooperative Experience: A Model for Richmond, California?

Worker's co-ops are one of the most transformative things communities can undertake. The Mayor of Richmond, California, Gayle McLaughlin, is about to launch an extraordinary working relationship with the world's largest worker co-op movement, from the Basque region of Spain. Could YOUR community do the same?

"Court's Campaign Money Ruling is a Red Herring" by Jane Anne Morris

Before running off trying to counter the recent Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (FEC), we ought to sort out what this decision does and does not do.
